today I added some arms (they don't really animate, they just kinda dangle atm) and made the head point forward

More Blender experiments! This is my first toon render, and first time using the new and improved grease pencil tools. Additionally, all the animation is procedural and I even used drivers for the first time--albeit in the most simplistic possible way. I tried sculpture painting which let me add color to my froggy sculpt without topologizing and unwrapping.

The frog character concept comes from this book my friend is working her way through.

So, once again, I haven't made a character controller yet. But I'm getting close. I fixed a critical error with the physics solver and now everything stays much more stable:

The most prominent blocker to getting a controllable, walking flower pot is now the manipulation of the legs. Here's my thought process: - The walking requires that one "foot" remain in place while the flower pot and other leg move freely. - However, the leg is attached to the flower pot such that whenever the flower pot moves, the leg in its entirety moves with it. - So, because I need one foot to stay grounded, I need to constrain the tentacle in some way and let it pull the flower pot back, like a leash, instead of the other way around, which is how it works presently on account of the tentacle being a child node of the flower pot. - Constraining the tentacle right now is really hard. It moves only according to the FABRIK algorithm's instructions; it isn't affected by any part of the physics system. If I integrate the tentacle into the physics engine, it'll be constrainable by the physics solver. - But if the FABRIK algorithm and the physics engine are competing to decide where the points should be, the behavior will definitely be too unpredictable. With all of that in mind, I have arrived at a solution: a brain. The tentacle will have a subclass, called the "tentacle brain," that uses the FABRIK solver to decide where the tentacle wants to be. Then, the tentacle, which will now be subject to the physics system's whims, will try to align itself with the shape that its brain is aiming through physical forces instead of directly changing the positions. Trying to make this work will also probably give me some insight into how I'll have to go about adding pathfinding later on. It'll all be on a separate layer of "brains." And respectively, the tentacle takes on a role more like a "muscle."

I been talking to a lot of ppl w cats lately (I volunteer at an animal shelter) and I didn’t know this needed to be said but

PLEASE FOR THE LOVE OF GOD DO NOT DECLAW YOUR CAT.

Declawing sounds very normal to people who aren’t educated on it so let me show you what it actually is.

As you might notice from the diagram, the claw is attached to a small bone at the very end of a cat’s paw. They are fused to this bone, which on a human hand would be where your last knuckle is (the one right before your nail). When someone gets a cat declawed, they aren’t just removing the claw.

The entire last digit of the cat’s paw is removed. (See below)

This severely impedes the cat’s ability to balance itself, is extremely painful for them, and can make the cat extremely aggressive because it no longer has one of its main defense mechanisms! It can also cause many other medical issues down the line including infection, necrosis, and some cats are never able to walk correctly again. Most cats that have this done never fully recover from the procedure and are in constant chronic pain.

It is extremely inhumane and is illegal in only two states at the time I’m writing this!!!! (Maryland and New York) Cats should only have this procedure if it is a life or death situation, never just because someone finds a cat being a cat inconvenient for them. Don’t get a cat if you don’t want to be scratched or have some ruined furniture. If you want more information on this topic, I’d recommend Jackson Galaxy’s YouTube video on it, and to read up on some articles I will link in the comments.

I know I don’t usually post about these types of things, but it’s made me extremely angry to hear people mention getting their cats declawed so flippantly as if it doesn’t ruin the cat’s life, and always for an asinine reason like “they scratched my couch” or “they scratch my kids” THOSE ARE YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES AS A CAT OWNER. Treat your kids and peers to treat animals with respect, or don’t get a cat.

I'm doing some lighter work on the laptop while BEEFMASTER's brain is off getting replaced. These are some looping textures compliments of CG Cookie. The first three were made by following steps in the tutorial and the last one was me screwing around with saw waves, noise vectors, and compositor filters. All of these are procedural, animated textures.
